         To 1997 Duties:  Consultant.  Developed software over LAN using ODBC and OS2 servers.  Used ACCESS and dB2 to develop parts procurement database application.  Designed and built GUI screens to assist automotive procurement specialists in tracking thousands of part procurements.  Developed specialized Active X component to satisfy unique project requirements.  Utilized Windows API extensively to accomplish tasks impossible using VB alone.  Developed extensive, complex SQL code utilizing ODBC SQL server, dB2, DAO, and RDO.  Controlled software configuration with Visual Source Safe.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

*  Project saved Honda $35 million per year.  Developed complex SQL queries uniting five tables to form new table structure.  Developed screens to allow users to select desired tool amortization volumes based on vehicle model type, model year, engine, plant, and market.  Developed screens to allow users to edit and display car options associated with selected body styles.  Screens permitted users to see widely dispersed, but related data in one place for the first time.  Screens automated very labor intense processes for developing and tracking parts amortization tables.  Developed VB-hosted SQL queries routed over LAN to mainframe using dB2, and ODBC.  Built variable-width dropdown combo box Active X common module tool for use across all project activities.  Developed user interactive directory browser.  Used C++ and Oracle in small side projects.

Controlled software configuration with Visual Source Safe.  Developed on Pentiums using a sophisticated LAN.  Developed PL/SQL queries to database.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

*  Designed and built software system to accept text in specified format and reformat for Powerpoint application.  Using OLE and Sendkeys the program allowed the user to specify format and where on a Powerpoint-slide information was to be displayed.  Allowed much more control than other methods.  Allowed text from old mainframe system to automatically be reformatted and displayed on a PC. 

*  Financial application provided teller interface software to bank specifications.  Adapted Microsoft calculator to adding machine type entry format.  Adapted existing software to permit additional information such as bank ABA number, account number, and check number to be displayed to the teller.  Developed check-digit routine to screen for invalid ABA numbers.  Adapted electronic journal to record ABA number, check number, and account number.

*  Installed Windows 95, Windows NT, Visual Basic 4.0, Visual Basic 3.0, Visual Source Safe, VB Assist, and troubleshot LAN installation.

*  Developed software applications for client company in Visual Basic and Ada.  Developed user interface in Ada using UNIX and Sun Solaris.  Developed noise prediction model in Visual Basic for NASA's High Speed Civil Transport jet engines.  Used existing aircraft engine noise data to create model.  Model was developed using C, Visual Basic and an advanced abductive modeling tool employing artificial intelligence techniques.  Originated concept and provided system level design for new invention to measure air leaks in automotive heating and air conditioning systems.  Developed innovative technique to provide a zero static pressure air extraction system that then measured the air extracted from the system.  Provided high accuracy measurement for high volume, low pressure leaks.

 

              1993 TURBOTEXT INC. - Optical Character Recognition Machine Development

Duties:  Originated idea and obtained patent approval for freestanding optical character recognition machine based on the idea of the coin-operated plain paper copier.  Device takes paper input on a scanner and converts the document image generated by the scanner into a word processor compatible file useful for editing on a word processor.  Software developed under Windows in Visual Basic.  Left when company was unable to obtain sufficient venture capital.

 

             1988 NETROLOGIC, INC - High Technology Software Applications

Duties:  Produced hundreds of software and hardware designs for high technology programs for projects involving signal processing, robotics, controls, vision systems, target recognition, electronics, and chip development.  Responsible for designs and then leading the team to develop the product on projects that received funding.  Managed seven people and $500,000 annual operating budget.  Left the company due to the recession and business slowdown of 1992 and military cutbacks of new administration.
